It struck me as more odd or thoughtless than coincidental that major maintenance with outages was scheduled on September 11 and not on another less infamous date in the year.

I must confess that my distrust of institutions, internet and otherwise, these days has me often accused of seeing a glass half empty than half full-- to which I counter that seeing reality with more accuracy is to see a glass both half empty and half full.

What bothers me most is the idea that most people close their eyes to at least half of reality-- until after a glass is emptied.

I very much value the resources at the Internet Archive, and the democratic ideals pursued here-- but am nervous about its future as I witness the insidious growth of public-private partnerships in all realms and the growing power of a government apparatus which numerous people decried at a recent memorial for Aaron Swartz hosted by the Internet Archive here in San Francisco.

With my sensibilities, your picking September 11 for major maintenance was like a pinch.
